Education in India

Education in India is given importance from time immemorial. Nalanda University is the oldest University system in the world. Child education in India is Compulsory. Both Union government and State government are responsible for implementing education in India. According to constitution of India, Education is a fundamental right.

Indian literacy rate has been growing but not at a happy pace. The growth of educational institutions in India is not in pace with the growth in population. Investment in education by the centre and state governments also as a percentage of government expenditure need to be improved.

India has a literacy rate of 60.1% and this needs a rapid increase very soon. In an increasingly competitive world, education is fast turning out to be one of the major parameters to judge the development of a country. Although several educational institutes have been set up recently, the country is still facing a shortage of such institutions, especially in far flung areas.
