Central University of Orissa

Central University of Orissa (CUO) came into existence through an ‘Act of Parliament’, 2009. Its main purpose is the personal and intellectual progress of the students. Located in Koraput, Orissa the university is nestled within lush valleys.

Central University of Orissa aims at establishing itself as a nationally known university that will be recognized for its excellent faculty and the amount of balance between the teaching process and scholarship, for its widespread partnership networks, for the commitment and responsibility to address the tribal people’s educational and other developments. CUO believes in maintaining academic integrity.

The University will incorporate in its curriculum strong undergraduate courses with “liberal arts core”, professional and graduate programs, scholarship, research, and creative activities, master’s degree programmes and research programmes. The 1st postgraduate Programmes of CUO was inaugurated in August 2009.

Goals of Central University of Orissa

Some of the important goals of Central University of Orissa’s are mentioned below.

Creating an intellectual experience common to all 1st-year students that will help in developing some common sets of intellectual skills. This will include the formation of a core curriculum which is inquiry-based and which will serve as the pillar of the academic undertaking.
Supporting excellent quality undergraduate courses on Community Health Services, Rural Enterprise, Social Informatics, Clinical Technology and Nuclear Power Engineering etc that will cater to the needs of the country.
Provide ample scope for the students to gain knowledge within and also outside the classroom.
Instill among the students the sense of responsibility, values related with the good of the public etc.
Support research and creative activity
Developing plans to improve the national importance of CUO through cultural and competitive programs.

The Vice- Chancellor of the Central University of Orissa, Prof Surabhi Banerjee has exchanged Memorandum of Understanding with Dr K .Srinath Reddy, the Chairman of the Public Health Foundation of India. CUO has also signed MoU with the British Council, Eastern Region, and also Professor C. S. Shesadri, the Director of Chennai Mathematical Institute University
