The permanent campus will be at Kandi village on National Highway 9. It is close to Sangareddy town in Medak District of Andhra Pradesh. Sonia Gandhi led the campus foundation stone on February27, 2009. The permanent campus of this institute of higher education in Engineering and Technology, which sprawls over an area of 212-hectares, will commence its operation in 2010.
The Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad, aims at budding not only engineers but future doctors also. The institute has plans to establish a medical school within its campus. It hopes to offer MD and MBBS programmes in years to come. The unique feature of IIT-H is that it has entered into an “Indo-Japan collaboration” which is expected to prove as strength for the institute.
IIT Hyderabad came into existence in the year 2008. The1st academic session of the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad commenced on 20th August, 2008, from its temporary campus at the Ordnance Factory (ODF) in Andhra Pradesh. While the B. Tech course was started by the Institute in 2008, its PhD programme commenced from January 2009.
