The curriculum, syllabus and the course structure will be the same as IIT Kanpur, the mentor IIT. The classes were also held at IIT Kanpur. The Indian Institute of Technology, Rajasthan is a part of the list of 8 new IITs that have proposed by Ministry of Human Resource Development under Government of India.
Jodhpur has been approved and selected by the MHRD and the State Government of India for the establishment of the Indian Institute of Technology, Rajasthan. Since November 2009, after the arrival of the final approval, IIT Rajasthan in association with the State Government is working hard on setting up and shifting of the temporary campus of IIT Rajathan from IIT Kanpur. This institute for higher education in engineering and technology will be situated on National Highway 65 which is 22 Kms from the city of Jodhpur. The construction of the IIT campus which would spread over an area of 900 acres is supposed to commence in the later half of 2010.
For the coming 2 years, the administrative and the academic blocks of the IIT Rajasthan will be located at the Engineering College, Ratanada in Jodhpur. On 27th February, 2010 IIT Rajasthan signed MoU with the JNV University.
Academic Programmes at Indian Institute of Technology, Rajasthan
The Indian Institute of Technology, Rajasthan also called IIT Jodhpur, is presently offering undergraduate programmes in 3 disciplines:
1. Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering
2. Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering
3. Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering
Admission to all these courses is done through the JEE (Joint Entrance examination). 40 students in every branch are selected and admitted after the completion of their 10+2 schooling.
