Pondicherry University

Pondicherry University, the Central University located in Pondicherry, was founded in the year 1985 by the Indian Government. It is an affiliated university spread over the Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. With 25,000 students, 57 affiliated colleges, more than 1500 students in the main campus and 27000 students in distance education, the university is a pioneer in distance learning with online admission to PG courses, “choice based credit system” and other facilities.

The Pondicherry University aims at disseminating and advancing knowledge by endowing with research and other facilities, make provisions for studying French and other integrated courses in Science, humanities and other educational programs, and promote inter-disciplinary research and study.

There are several facilities offered by the university. The library houses more than 1,15,613, books, journals and other documentaries and is also equipped with E-Journals access service, Reprographic and photocopying facilities, E-mail service, Internet access service, online public access catalogue and CD-ROM Journals Databases access service. Central Instrumentation facility, mechanical shop, glass blowing shop, electronic shop, accommodation and hostel facilities with good number of hostels are also provided by the university. The university caters to distance education since 1995. The various courses offered are MBA in marketing, finance, HRM, and International Business. Besides India, Pondicherry University has distance education centres at Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait as well. The University is fully supported by the University Grants Commission. The University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

The present Vice-Chancellor of the University is Prof. J.A.K. Tareen and Shri S. Logathan is the registrar. Memorandums of Understanding have been signed by the university with various other well known universities.
